7 mins away - Easily a full day trip. Stop by the visitor center and see the Saura Indian exhibit. The views are spectacular from the top of Hanging Rock or Moore’s Knob. Look for the farmhouse from either summit; it’s easy to spot. If heights aren’t your thing, from the visitor center lot hike down to Upper Cascades Falls or Hidden Falls and Window Falls to cool off. During summer, go for a swim and enjoy the sand beach at the lake.

Walk the downtown and visit the real life locations that inspired the show. We recommend visiting Wally’s Service Station, Walker’s Soda Fountain, Floyd’s Barber Shoppe, the Andy Griffith Museum, and, of course, stop in at the historic Snappy Lunch (125 N Main St) for its famous pork chop sandwich. You can even book a tour in a replica squad car.
