Pulau Carey is an island located off the southwestern coast of Selangor, a short distance from Morib and the royal town of Klang. Things to do Hatter’s Castle – Beautiful, colonial-era cottage bungalow with an exceptionally well-maintained, landscaped garden. Built in the 1920s, this was the former home of the plantation manager. Mah Meri Cultural Village – Watch a traditional dance, buy handicrafts and learn to make headdresses using palm fronds. Amverton Cove Golf & Island Resort – Fully-integrated resort with luxury villas available and plenty of activities (open to non-guests) including archery, flying fox, rock climbing, paintball, abseiling, kayaking, ATV, fishing, cycling and an Animal Island. LS Fishing Pond – Popular giant grouper fishing pond (catch and release). Pulau Carey beach – Though not suitable for swimming, the beach in Carey Island, called Pantai Tanjung Rhu, is good enough for relaxation and photography. Oil palm plantations – Much of Carey Island is covered with vast oil palm estates mostly owned by Sime Darby Bhd, the world’s largest producer of certified sustainable palm oil. Educational visits with prior permission from the company are allowed every once in a while. Pulau Carey Seafood Restaurants Many visitors come here exclusively for the seafood, claimed to be a notch above the typical fare you would find in the city. Kang Guan Seafood Restaurant – Located right by the river that separates the island from the mainland, Kang Guan Seafood Restaurant has good food and great views. I Suka Restaurant (Pork-free) – Also located by the river and next to LS Fishing Pond. Seri Langat Seafood Restaurant – Located before the river. Source: www.visitselangor.com/pulau-carey-island/

Built in the early 1900s, Istana Bandar Jugra is located in Jugra, a historical town in Kuala Langat district. Sultan Sir Alaeddin Sulaiman Shah, the fifth Sultan of Selangor, lived here for many years until his death in 1938. His grandson, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, who was to be the eight Sultan of Selangor, was born in the palace in 1926. The double-storey structure has many rooms, including a royal bath (Kolam Mandi Diraja), throne room (Balai Rong Seri), banquet room (Kamar Santap Diraja), bedrooms (Kamar Beradu), audience halls (Balai Mengadap), verandah (Sotoh), kitchen (Dapur) and a ‘forbidden garden’ (Taman Larangan). Also known as Istana Alaeddin or Alaeddin Palace, the building was constructed using high-quality cengal timber and marble. Its design is largely Islamic, mainly of Indian and Middle-Eastern origin. There is also some Chinese influence (the roof’s carved fascia board and sisik naga or dragon fin), as craftsmen from China were involved in the palace’s construction. The palace fell into disuse after independence, when the administrative center of the state was moved to Kuala Lumpur. It was later used as a craft center and a center for studying the Quran, the central religious text of Islam. It is usually visited together with Bukit Jugra, Makam Diraja Sultan Abdul Samad (Royal Mausoleum) and the yellow-coloured Masjid Sultan Alaeddin, which is located next door.
