Sightseeing in Tromsø

At Tromsø Museum you can travel from the depth of the Arctic sea all the way up to the atmosphere to learn about the Arctic life and nature. The gift shop is nice, with authentic Sami and Norwegian silver and wool handicrafts.

"Meet" the brave men and women who went to explore the Arctic and harvest its rich resources decades and centuries ago! This is a very traditional Norwegian museum, where you can smell the tar from the exhibited ship parts.

Fjellheisen Cable Car offers the best view of Tromsø and its surrounding mountains, and expensive waffles and coffee. If your pacemaker can take it, I warmly recommend taking the stairs "Sherpatrappa" to get to the top, and the cable car back down (but remember to check if it is icy and slippery - and if so: wear your crampons!). If it's winter you should adjust your plans to fit the limited light, so you're on the top of Fløya mountain when theres a bit of light behind the Kvaløya mountains. Or if the northern lights is active, adjust to the aurora forecast! Enjoy!

Swim under the Northern Lights!
I haven't had the pleasure of visiting this tourist attraction myself, but have been convinced by the many guests in our Airbnb to add it to my list. I have had the pleasure of getting to know a couple of the dogs at the wilderness center as they were in foster care in our neighbourhood during the covid lockdown. Now the dogs are back home, ready to give tourists a great arctic animal and wilderness experience!
