Enjoy the beauty of the Southwest using the delightful Stewart-Woolley House Bed and Breakfast as your home away from home!
This home is steeped in history.
Constructed of Kanab double brick in 1872, by Levi Stewart, the first Mormon Bishop of Kanab, the home was later purchased by Edwin Dilworth Woolley in 1889, and he was the first person to promote tourism in southern Utah. Mr. Woolley's daughter, Mary Woolley Chamberlain, became the first female mayor with an all woman council in 1912, the first such occurrence in the history of the United States. The home was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 6, 2001.
Relax, rest, and dine in the very home where several notable people have done the same ... Buffalo Bill Cody, wild west showman; Zane Grey, novelist; Harrison "Jack" Schmitt, Apollo 17 astronaut; Brigham Young, American pioneer and leader of the LDS church; and Benjamin Cluff Jr., explorer and first president of Brigham Young University.
In the pioneer period, the home was across the street from the old town square. Located in a quiet neighborhood, just one block from downtown, many attractions and fine restaurants are within a casual stroll.
Kanab is the home of Best Friends Animal Society, the nation's largest no-kill animal sanctuary in the nation. Droves of volunteers and visitors continually visit this pet-lovers haven, located just six miles north of town.
Three national parks are within a short distance of "home." Zion N.P. - 40 miles; Bryce Canyon N.P. - 77 miles; and Grand Canyon N.P. (north rim) - 78 miles. Additionally, the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument provides countless wilderness hiking opportunities.
Both Jeanne and Steve are avid hikers, so if you want some tips on hiking in the area, they will happily share their experiences and expertise. In addition to hiking many of the trails in Zion, Bryce, and the Grand Canyon, they have done the same in other spectacular nearby regions. See our photos.
Two private air-conditioned upstairs bedrooms - each newly carpeted and each with its own bathroom with shower - are available for our guests. Just off the head of the stairway, adjacent to each bedroom is a cozy parlor with a couch, chairs, small refrigerator with wet bar, and television.
In addition to the privacy of your own room and shared use of the parlor, our guests are free to enjoy the pleasant living and dining rooms.
THE BUFFALO BILL ROOM: (for this Air B&B listing, this is designated as ... Room 1)
You will be greeted by the morning's rising sun! If you want a better look, walk out onto the small sleeping porch (balcony) that opens off the bedroom. The double bed is tucked into the 166 sq. ft. L-shaped room, with the attached bathroom, with shower, off the other end of the "L." WIFI is included.
THE BRIGHAM YOUNG ROOM: (to reserve this room, go to the listing designated as "Stewart Woolley House B&B (Room 2)."
This 159 sq. ft. room features two twin size beds. It too has a small sleeping porch (balcony) where you can watch the evening sun drop over the red cliffs. The room includes its own attached bathroom, with shower. WIFI is included.
Breakfast will be served with a flexible schedule to accommodate the wishes of our guests. Our menu will vary each day, but if there's something you'd especially like, just ask us ... we're easy! French toast, pancakes, omelets, and quiche are our mainstays. Sides include sausage or bacon; juice and fruit. Ask about our personal favorites: Jeanne's vegetable omelet, Steve's yogurt-fruit topping, or our "team best" ... honey craisin bread!
WHISKERS and BEAUTY:
Please know, there are two old ladies living with us ... actually two cats! They're shy and tend to hide when strangers are around, but if you have a cat allergy, please be advised. We do not allow our guests to bring their pets.
Atención a los huéspedes
Certainly we enjoy interacting with our guests over breakfast, and while we love to visit with all our guests throughout their visit, we foremost respect their privacy.

During the summer months the days can be very hot, at times over 100 degrees F (38 C) but the nights are always cool, typically into the mid-50s (13 C) making for pleasant open-window sleeping if one wishes.
We have declined to list "house rules." We prefer to simply ask our guests to be calm, cool, and collected! Very simply, respect our home as you would your own. There is NO SMOKING on the premises. NO PETS allowed. We love all animals, but our two cats are fussy.
NOTE: Whereas we are planning to move back to the Midwest, our home is for sale. If you are interested, please contact Lynette at ERA Realty in Kanab, UT.
