The O2Haus is certified as one of the most energy efficient homes in the world. As a passive house, it is heated primarily by the sun and day-to-day activity. What little energy we use is offset by rooftop solar panels, enabling the home to be net-zero energy. The home has been featured in a variety of publications, as a film set, and on tours.
Features include reclaimed shipping crate hardwood floors, innovative indirect lighting, custom fixtures throughout, and twist-and-turn triple-pane windows. A heat-recovery ventilation system delivers fresh, filtered air to each room in the home 24/7/365 (great for those with allergies). The house boasts an extremely comfortable climate free of drafts and hot/cold spots.
Amenities include a sunset balcony, lofted dining & living room, modern kitchen with induction stove, heated towel racks, charcoal BBQ, broadband wifi, and garage parking for bicycles. The paver driveway doubles as a patio surrounded by drought-resistant native foliage watered via a rain chain.

This is a shared house, though guests have plenty of privacy. I’m a renewable energy marketing manager and photographer. My partner Amanda (who co-manages this listing) is a lawyer and nonprofit director. We have a wonderful housemate.
We’re longtime Portlanders, and we're happy to provide tips and local insight. We maintain busy lifestyles, but enjoy visiting with guests when schedules and availability align.

The custom front door is airtight, secure, and uses a different locking mechanism than most are used to.
As with most minimalist homes, the hard surfaces lead to sound traveling well. Extra-light sleepers fear not - we are respectful about noise and we provide earplugs and a white noise machine.
We'd love for you to experience passive house living as our guests.

Please take care with the house and its furnishings (e.g. use coasters for glasses and remove shoes when entering).
If you drive, please use the free & ample on-street parking. You'll aid our relationship with our neighbors if you park directly in front of the house.
We fit Portland stereotypes pretty well. I bike, hike, play board games, and love exploring the urban environment. I work as a renewable energy marketing manager and photographer. Though I'm an engineer by training, more recent vocations include bartending, political campaigns, and nonprofit direction.
My partner Amanda (who co-manages our listing) is an advocate for sustainable land use. You’ll be lucky to meet our roommate Matt if he’s not on the road in his role as Executive Director of a national civic engagement nonprofit.
I'm a proud Oregonian, but I grew up overseas, which helped inspire wanderlust... I've done a fair bit of shoestring global vagabonding, and I love traveling vicariously by chatting with others on the road.
