Our charming shepherds' huts sit in the old orchard of our farm in the village of Bowness on Solway, Cumbria. The site is named 'The Garrison' as it sits on the remains of the former Roman fort of Maia, a world heritage site at the end of Hadrian's Wall. Bowness itself is in an area of outstanding natural beauty sitting on the Solway Estuary which separates England from South West Scotland. We are 40 minutes from the Lake District and 20 minutes from the historic city of Carlisle.

The swimming pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room will be closed for refurbishment from Monday 2nd March until Thursday 2nd April 2026. Changeover days are Friday (for a 3 night stay) and Monday (for a 4 night stay) or 7 nights from either day, but please contact me if you have any queries with your dates as we can sometimes be flexible.

Dorothy’s place is part of an 18th Century Villa. Adults only no children allowed. Everything you need for that perfect romantic break. Guests get full use of the large garden and woodland to take in the stunning view. If travelling by train our advice would be get a taxi from the station as can be difficult to find on foot . Guests are welcome to park up as early as you want before check in or drop luggage off in a safe place,but please let us know in advance.
